My new tattoo of Bob Dylan.. I really love Bob. My inspiration came when I saw some work an artist called iri5, had made.. She says

“The Ghost in the Machine” series was inspired by some strange ideas. How at one level we are cellular beings and another we are a single “self.” The single cassette tape I thought of as representing the mind. The tape ribbon represents our thoughts, the data within. Taking that data – those bits of memory – and rearranging them to form what we see as a face is my way of finding a “ghost in the machine.

I was offline for 24 hours. It was like I had just run out of crack, and the dead baby was crawling across my ceiling. No blogs, no facebook, no email, no online news, no free music. Honestly, I thought it would all be ok, but having something be taken away from you (not like an active choice to enter into a technology famine) is not a happy thing.

I tried everything. Booze, cigarettes, cleaning, coffee, spliff - nothing could break this undeniable feeling that something wasn’t right.

And now I’m back. But for what? To write a blog about how I didn’t have the internet, to update my facebook status, to check out the new mixes on 8tracks (although this latter part is pretty darn sweet).

I think we should go to internet rehab, and make some real friends.

“Yasmine Laraqui is a French photographer who forms her work around a series of different concepts. In the same way a director controls his film, Yasmine does exactly the same; she manipulates the scenario and influences her models around a ‘script’ that is the drawn out concept. We see this brilliant display of themed photography most prominently in her series entitled Sans Degre, where she stages an individual in front of a simplistic background that gives a laconic quality to reflect deep contemplation. This confidence of control and the ability to decipher an photographic concept is what really caught our attention to Laraqui’s work. We spoke with her as she told us more about her unique approach.”
